This body of work delves into the themes of national identity, historical burden, and resilience in the face of conflict. It features two unglazed ceramic sculptures—a young Slavic boy and an older man with Mongoloid features—each representing facets of these themes. The figures, with their eyes closed, serve as a metaphor for societal denial of the harsh realities of conflict and the general reluctance to confront uncomfortable truths.

The young figure, with his slender neck and bowed head, symbolizes the heavy burdens that conflict places on youth. His fragmented form visually represents the divisions caused by such strife. In contrast, the older figure is detailed with fur-like textures, reflecting the primal instincts that emerge during turbulent times. The empty sockets where antlers might have been symbolize both the enduring strength and the complex historical influences of the region, as well as the resilience needed for decolonization.

Crafted from unglazed ceramic, these sculptures portray a raw, unfiltered look at individuals shaped by their native lands, their forms marked by the scars of conflict. The material's unfinished state highlights the ongoing process of decolonization and the emergence of new, independent identities.

The narrative extends into the digital realm, incorporating these sculptures into a computer game where the avatar, representing the artist’s mixed-nationality identity, navigates a vast desert landscape. This setting acts as a metaphorical backdrop for exploring personal and collective histories, symbolizing a continuous journey of self-discovery within the context of historical and cultural identity.

As the avatar moves through this expansive desert, the complexities of identity—shaped by diverse cultural backgrounds and a region rich in conflict—are emphasized. The piece stands as a poignant commentary on the intersection of personal and political realms, highlighting the profound role of art in shaping and challenging our understanding of these complex themes. The work invites viewers to reflect on their individual identities, the historical forces that shape them, and the collective path society is navigating.
